Elait empowers our deaf community

Food & Places

I’ve spent quite a week in SM North towers to fix my teeth (this is for another story) and while waiting for my mom-in-law and sister-in-law from their spa session. We looked for a place where we can chill and wait.

If you haven’t been in SM North Towers, I would say it is more for family as it has more restaurants and amusement for kids.

restaurants that hire deaf partners

We stumbled upon Elait Ice Cream Shop an artisanal rolled ice cream store at the ground floor (across Katunying’s cafe). I was fascinated to found out that they hired deaf partners. It is empowering for our fellow Filipinos to be able to have a job no matter their health and physical condition is.

I appreciate how customer friendly the kiosk is. They have a signage where they said “Say hello to our Deaf partners” and then there is a basic sign language poster to help the customer communicate with them.

They’ll also hand you a checklist so they can get your order right. After which you’ll wait and can watch them passionately prepare your treat.

We ordered the Bana-Nutella and it was so delicious. We chose the yogurt variant for a less guilty pleasure after the dinner we had in Hukad. I can see myself going back to try the other best sellers and practice the basic sign language too. They have Strawberry Trifle, Strawberry Mango Cheesecake, Chocolate overload, Oreo matcha, Choconut dinosaur, Cheese & Toasted Mallows. Plus a milk drink too.

My heart was really touched trying out this place. I wish to see more accepting workplace as our uniqueness should not be a hindrance to success.

Kudos, Elait!
