How to Prevent Hair Damage When You Need to Style

Beauty & Style

Maintaining good hair health can be difficult when you have a job that requires you to rock a certain style, or when you enjoy experimenting with different looks. But constantly styling your hair with tools and products, as well as colouring and tightly tying your hair every day often leads to long term damage.

It doesn’t have to be this way though, as there are some simple tricks that you can implement in your daily routine that will help avoid destroying your precious locks.

1. Use natural shampoo and conditioner

Too many of our hair care products have nasty chemicals in them. While these chemicals may help your hair to feel softer and look shinier after you wash, they could actually be causing damage. Some ingredients found in a lot of shampoos strip your hair of natural oils, while others can wreak havoc with your stomach and hormones.

Choosing 100% natural or vegan shampoos is not only much better for your hair now and long-term, it is also better for our environment. Find products that contain natural fruit and flower oils to repair and hydrate your hair.

2. Use hair ties that prevent breakage

If you’re tying your hair up every day, you should avoid using rubber bands or ties that will break your hair. Try using a nice loose scrunchie or fabric tie, or look for the artificial resin hair rings that look like an old telephone cord. They are much better for holding your hair in place without being constrictive, and you won’t need to worry about your strands breaking.

3. Choose low-impact or no damage hair extensions

It shouldn’t be a secret by now that most types of hair extensions cause damage to your hair. This is because of the tape or glue used to apply them in a salon, and also the strain that they put on your roots. Choosing extensions that are known to cause minimal or no damage is the way to go if you really want to have long luscious locks.

4. Fake your volume

No damage hair extensions also come in handy when you want to add some extra volume for a night out or special occasion. Rather than using damaging heat styling tools such as a curling iron, try temporary one-piece extensions that sit on your hair and blend in. You can use your styling tools on these to create the look you want and not worry about causing lasting damage to your natural hair.

5. Embrace your natural locks

There is that old saying that we always want what we don’t have, and this is especially true when it comes to our hair. Those with curly hair want straight hair, and those with straight hair want curly hair. Instead of spending a lot of money, time and effort creating a different look every day, why not go au naturale? It might not be as scary as you think.

Start protecting your hair today!

Looking great does not have to mean putting your hair at risk of damage on a daily basis. By implementing these tips, you can help keep your gorgeous hair healthy and avoid any long-term damage.
